Scrapbook Saturday!

Hello friends! It's been a busy week, and I hope you all are getting some good downtime this weekend. Today we're introducing a new feature here -- "Scrapbook Saturday." I'll be sharing a new layout by our resident scrapbooker, Melissa Craig, every couple of weeks for your enjoyment and inspiration.

Digis, especially precolored ones, work particularly well for digital scrapbooking. Using a program like "My Memories Suite" (what Melissa uses) or "Photoshop" (like I use), you can easily layer digital papers and digis along with your photos and other decorative elements. The pages you create can then be stored on your computer, printed out and placed in a traditional scrapbook, or even used to create printed books as gifts for family and friends.

To create today's page, Melissa used elements from our "Christmas Cuties" set, including the snowman image and the dots-and-stripes paper. She added snowflakes and papers from the "My Memories Suite" to accent this adorable picture of her daughter. If you look closely, you can see that her daughter is wearing a precious little snowman dress that Melissa made for her. So darling! To read more about how Melissa creates her pages, please visit her blog, and be sure to check back in a couple of weeks for our next Scrapbook Saturday! :-)

Where Have You Been Hiding?

Do you make New Year's resolutions? Each year, my resolution is pretty much the same: to be better about reaching out to and staying in contact with friends and family. As a busy wife and mother (among all the other hats that I wear), and as someone who is naturally a bit "hermit-ish," being social can be a pretty big challenge for me. So each year, I resolve to do better. Handmade cards are a great way of reaching out and letting someone know you care, so this year I am planning to keep a stack right on my work desk. This way, as people cross my mind, or prayer requests come through email, I can send off notes right away. Here is the first for my stack, made with the "Out of the Bag" set. I colored Oscar a little differently than he appears in the precolored image from this set, and added a few doodles and a flower accent to his bag to pretty it up. The sentiment is a good one, I think, for saying hello to someone I haven't seen or heard from in a while, even if half the time it's really me that's been "hiding." ;-)

Time for a Hug?

Hello friends! I hope you all had a magnificent Christmas! I apologize for the break between posts -- holiday preparations kept me hopping this last week or so. Although Christmas is my very favorite day of the year, it is also nice in some ways to move forward so that life can settle down a bit.

Today I have a marvelous card, made by designer Carol Longacre, to share with you. Carol made this little sweetie using the new "Time With You" set. She found the most wonderful Roman numeral paper to use in the background, and the red brads that she added to the gears and pendulum really bring this to life. Carol makes a lot of cards for children who are hospitalized in order to lift their spirits. I just know this one is going to make some little boy or girl smile, as I hope it does you! :-)

Challenge Inspiration & DT Call Reminder

It's week 3 of the December Digi of the Month Challenge, and we've already received a lot of fabulous entries! Thank you very much to everyone who has joined us so far this month. For those who haven't played along yet, there is still plenty of time. If you're not sure how to join in, visit this post for details, or click on the "Challenges" button at the top of the page.

Here's a little fresh inspiration for those who haven't decided how to use their "Gingerbread Train" set. This card was made by designer NanaConnie using the precolored engine from the set. Isn't it fun how she cut the greeting out to resemble a puff from the smokestack? :-)

I also wanted to remind everyone that we have a DT Call going right now. We're looking for six designers to join our team starting mid-January. If you're interested, please visit this page or click the "DT Call" button at the top of the page for details.

7 Days Until Christmas!

I looked at the calendar this morning and realized that there are only seven days until Christmas. Wow! Are you ready? As so often happens, I find myself scrambling again to get those last few cards made and mailed, not to mention all the baking still to do. Every year I tell myself I'll do better, but every year it's the same story. Ah well!

For those still looking for Christmas inspiration (me!), we have a few cards to share with you today. This first beauty was made by designer Lori Finch, using the Christmas Cardinal set. Don't those lovely, nature-inspired papers make the perfect background for this?

Here's a real cutie by designer Paula Bloom, made with the Country Christmas set. The flower and swirly gem accents make this merry and bright!

This one was made with the "Beauty of the Season" set. I layered the sentiment inside the wreath in Word before printing, and kept the overall design clean and simple, with just a little glitter added to the poinsettia centers.

Remember, if you are needing digis for your last-minute Christmas projects, we have lots to choose from in our shop. And with our new instant download feature, you can get them right away and get to work! ;-)

New Digis & Fun Changes at the Shop!

Good morning! I hope your weekend wasn't too hectic. Things can sure get a little "hairy" this time of year, can't they?

Today I wanted to share with you that the upgrade at the shop is finally finished, thanks to the tireless work of Diane Noble and her son. We have a slightly different look, and you can now view digis by category instead of having to look at them all en masse. Best of all, we now offer instant downloads! No more waiting for your purchases to be emailed to you -- hooray! :-)

I also wanted to let you know that we have a few new digis in the shop today. Here's a peek at them.

Beary Merry Christmas

Here's a little something for our teddy-loving friends. Designer Jerusha Borden made a sweet, sweet Christmas card to share with you today using the "Beary Merry Christmas" set. The festive papers and darling poinsettia accents really set the scene, don't you think? This particular teddy is close to my heart. It was drawn with my son in mind. When he was little, he was always more interested in the boxes that his Christmas gifts came in than the gifts themselves. He would spend hours climbing in and out of those boxes, and I have so many pictures of him sitting in them. He's 22 now, and naturally, he no longer sits in his Christmas boxes, but I do cherish those memories. :-)

Christmas Caroling

Do you enjoy Christmas carols and caroling? They are definitely among my favorite things about this season! I listen to them pretty much all day every day throughout the month of December. During really tough times in my life, I have even listened to them as early as July -- LOL! There is just something amazing about this kind of music to me. It lifts my spirits like few other things can. From the spiritual songs that paint a picture of the first Christmas, to the outright silly ones about Santa and reindeer and what-not, I love them all. So naturally it wouldn't seem right to me to not make a few digis and Christmas cards about caroling!

This first card was made by designer NanaConnie using the caroling penguin image from the "Christmas Cuties" set. The way she laid this out gives it, I think, the feel of a sweet, old-fashioned ornament. The lace and bows give it such warmth, despite the snowy scene!

Here is another, made with the "Caroling Snowman" set. The way I see it, if we can sing about snowmen, then snowmen can sing, too! :-)

Challenge Inspiration + DT Call Reminder

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Of course, this time of year, the weekends can be just as hectic as the work week, so be sure to take at least a few moments here and there to do the things that relax you!

Today we have a lovely card made by designer Carol Longacre to share with you. Carol used both images from the December Digi of the Month -- "Gingerbread Train," and created a very fun and Christmas-y scene. Don't you just love the way she turned the sentiment into a boarding ticket, complete with red and green punches? Super cute! The digi set that Carol used on her card is this month's challenge set. If you haven't gotten the December Digi of the Month yet, you can get it for just $1.25 and play along with this month's challenge HERE. Best of all, if you enter a project made with this set before 6 January, you will receive next month's digi set for FREE!

I also wanted to remind everyone that we have a DT Call going on right now. You can see the details including info about how to apply HERE or by clicking on the DT Call button at the top of this page. Have a great day! :-)

Winter Warm Ups

Brrr! It is so very chilly here in California today! Sunny, yes, but cold nonetheless. Yes, it is the freezin' season, but it's not usually quite so freezin' here, and my fingers and toes are quite perplexed -- LOL! It is definitely the kind of day to curl up with a warm drink! To that end, I thought I'd share a couple of winter "warm-ups." These are cards that include a little extra something inside to get the fingers and toes defrosted.

This first warm-up was made by Sandy Domelle, using the "Warm Wishes" set. She tucked a packet of cocoa mix inside, and cleverly made her card in the shape of a mitten, which just gives it that much extra charm!

Here's one that I made using the "Cup of Cheer" set. It looks like an ordinary card on the outside, but on the inside is a little pocket for the cocoa pouch to slide into.

Although Sandy and I both tucked cocoa packets into our warm-ups, these could easily be made with tea, coffee, or cider pouches, too. A great way to let someone know you're thinking of them and sending them warm winter wishes! :-)

Country Christmas Scrapbooking

This is a great time of year to scrapbook, don't you think? Whether you do it with paper and an acid-free tape runner, or with your computer, it is a really enjoyable way to pass the cold, wintery evenings. It can be really relaxing to sit and sift through photos and figure out how best to "set the scene" for each new page. Especially if you've got a fire roaring in the background and a cup of something yummy within easy reach. ;-)

For today's share, we have a darling Christmas-themed digital scrapbook page that designer Melissa Craig has put a lot of her time and thought into. Melissa is our resident scrapbooker, and I love seeing what she comes up with to frame the sweet photos she has collected over the years of her children. For this page, she used the snowman and stocking digis from the "Country Christmas" set to accent this sweet page. Aren't her children just as cute as can be?

Away in a Manger & Design Team Call!

I *love* the Christmas season! The lights, the music, the decorations, the special foods, the visits with family, and so much more. But what I really love is the meaning behind the season. As Christians, for my family and me, the Christmas season means celebrating the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ. No other Christmas gift could compare! My card today was made in honor of this most special gift, with the image and a Scripture verse from the "Away in a Manger" set. I tried to keep the papers and accents to a minimum, and somewhat rustic-looking to match the humble scene of Jesus's birth. Ah, Christmas -- it fills my heart with such joy! How about you?

And speaking of joy, I have some exciting news to share today! We are looking to expand our Design Team! :-) We hope to add six (6) new designers to our team for a term of three months that will run from mid-January thru mid-April 2014. We will be collecting applications thru Monday, 6 January, and if you have a love for our digis, we encourage you to apply! For more details, including information about how to apply, please visit our Design Team Call page.

A Little Something to Perk You Up (Freebie!)

Are you a "Black Friday" shopper? Admittedly, I'm not. However, through some long-ingrained instinct, probably from years of working retail and having to be up to man the sales, I still find myself awake at the crack of dawn on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's a habit I sure wish that my body would kick -- I'd love to have had a little more sleep today instead of a little less -- LOL!

If you've woken at dawn to hit the sales, or just can't sleep like me, you're no doubt in need of a little "pick-me-up" by now -- I know I am! I'm off to grab a "cuppa," but wanted to share one with you first. :-) This one is fully decaffeinated, but I hope you'll enjoy it nonetheless. This is one of the images from our "Whole Latte Love" set, and is what I used on my card share for today. As you can see, it makes a fun card for this time of year, and wouldn't it be great for a gift card holder?

This freebie will only be available until Friday, December 6, so grab it while it's still "hot." Please remember that these digis, although "freebies," are subject to our Terms of Use, which includes not sharing them except as part of finished projects. If there is someone who you think would like to have these, please send them here to get it, OK? Thanks so much for respecting my work, and enjoy your holiday weekend! :-)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving today to our friends here in the United States! Whether your celebration is sweet and simple or fancy and elaborate, we wish each of you a most special day with your loved ones. A special thanks to those who can not be with their loved ones today because they are serving in the Armed Forces or as missionaries abroad. We appreciate you!

Sponsoring at Addicted to Stamps and More

This week we are excited to be sponsoring the "Holidays" challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More. Stop over to see the lovely creations their designers have made, and share your own holiday masterpieces for a chance to win some of our digis! :-)

Here is a little holiday creation of my own, featuring the pre-colored tree and red tag images from the "Doodle Tags" set. The sentiment is from the "Country Christmas" set. There is so much more to the Christmas season than trees and trimmings, but it is my family's tradition to start the Christmas season with a tree. We go and cut it down the day after Thanksgiving, and spend the weekend putting it together, along with all of our home decorations. The family time especially makes a great start to the holidays.

Be Glad in the Lord

How about a lovely card of hope and encouragement for this beautiful Tuesday? This card was made by designer Sandy Domelle, using the "Be Glad in the Lord" set. I really like how Sandy made the verse the centerpiece of the card. The flower and butterfly accents are so pretty, and remind me of the many little, beautiful things in this world that God created for us. This particular digi set that Sandy used, unlike most of ours, does not contain images -- it is simply a collection of uplifting Scripture verses. Sometimes those are just exactly what we need, don't you think?

Please Don't Share Digi Files

Dear Crafty Friends,

It was with great sadness today that I had to ask for some of my digis to be removed from Pinterest (TM). I was honored that someone would like my artwork so much that they would want to share it with the world. I choose to believe that it was done without malice. However, sharing my digis online -- or in any way other than as part of a finished project (e.g. card, scrapbook page) -- is against the Deedee's Digis Terms of Use. It also breaks United States Copyright law. This applies equally to those digis that are purchased, won as prizes, or offered here as freebies.

Please, friends, if there is a digi of mine that you would like someone to know about, share the link to to the shop. If it is a "freebie," please share the link to its post here on the blog. But please don't break the law by sharing the file, OK? Thank you very much for respecting my work in this way.

"Hoppy" Holidays

I'm getting excited for the holidays -- how about you? This week, in the United States, we celebrate Thanksgiving, and then the Christmas season starts, followed closely by the start of a brand new year. So much fun in such a short span of time! Of course, like many of you, our Design Team members have been crafting for the holidays for some time now. Those cards and gifts just won't make themselves, and we've got to have some free time during the actual holidays to just enjoy, don't we?
For today's share, we have a Christmas card made by designer Jerusha Borden. She used the "Oh Hoppy Day" set, which includes images and greetings for a variety of special occasions. The papers and snowflake accent Jerusha used are so lovely, not to mention the warm, cozy colors. A little cold and a little warmth -- the perfect combination for this time of year, as we "hop" into the holidays! :-)

Hanging Encouragement

From time to time, we all need a little reminder that someone "has our back." Here's a little gift that I made for a friend who is going through a tough time, both to remind her that she has people who care about her, but also that God cares and is always there, working towards a good future for her.

This is an altered coaster, decorated and designed to be hung in a special spot where it can be looked at frequently. The framed verse with the butterfly accent is an image from the "Framed Comfort" set. The verse is Isaiah 41:10 -- "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." This is one of the many verses that I find very comforting when I'm having a tough time, and I hope that my friend will, too.

If you are wanting to try to make one of these for someone you know who might need a little encouragement, it is pretty easy to do. To make this, I started with a cardboard coaster, covering the front and back of it with patterned paper. Once the paper was applied and trimmed, I sanded all the edges for a more perfect fit, and then inked them a bit. Then I punched holes through the top two corners of the coaster, and inserted some large, sturdy eyelets. I strung some ribbon through, and then finally decorated the front. The toughest part of this project was creating the holes for the eyelets -- make sure you have a tool that will punch through the cardboard. I ended up having to use a combination of a hole punch, an eyelet punch, and finally a pencil to work the holes through. Not an elegant process -- LOL! -- but worth it, I think.

Challenge Inspiration Week 3

We've made it to week 3 of the November Digi of the Month Challenge! Thanks to all of you have shared your challenge creations so far -- they are all amazing! For those who haven't entered yet, here's some fresh inspiration from our Design Team to get you thinking.

Let's start with this beauty made by designer Stephanie Wright. Stephanie created a whole wonderful, snowy world around little Daniel. Aren't those Kraft snowflakes that she made particularly lovely?

Here is one by designer  Carol Longacre. I really like the "soft" feel of this, with the pretty purple, green, and white papers she used. The way she staggered the pieces of the greeting adds a playfulness to this, too -- so fun!

Last but certainly not least, we have this cheerful card by NanaConnie. She went all out in her coloring, adding texture to Daniel and his little tree, and even creating a sky full of glittery snowflakes. She carried her decorating to the inside of the card, too. Love it!

Remember, you have until 11:55PM Pacific Time on 1 December to enter this month's challenge, and receive next month's digi for free. If you didn't play along last month, you can still get this month's digi -- "Daniel's Tree" -- for just $1.25 HERE.

Christmas Cardinal

Some of the loveliest Christmas cards, I think, are the ones that simply showcase the beauty of the natural world as seen this time of year. Here is one such card, made by designer NanaConnie. She used the "Christmas Cardinal set," along with one of the digital papers from the "Make a Joyful Noise" set. I really like how she colored the bird, to give the impression of feathers, and the sweet snowy accents she added to the branch and pine cones. Can't you just picture this scene outside your window on a Christmas morning? What a lovely sight that would be! :-)

O Give Thanks!

Do you decorate for the holidays? With Thanksgiving nearing, our home is currently decked out with scarecrows, turkeys, candles, pilgrims, and of course, lots of leafy creations. I do love getting in the spirit of the season, whatever the season might be! That said, I do try to also keep the meaning behind the holidays in perspective. Thanksgiving isn't just a day for fun decorations, or great food for that matter -- it's a day to give thanks for all the many blessings given to us throughout the year. My card today, made with the "Autumn Blessings" set, celebrates both. I printed the wreath image at about one-and-a-half times its normal size (one of the great things about digis -- the ability to resize them!), and then colored it with Copic markers, and fussy cut it. I have to tell you that my hands were shaking by the time I finished all the cutting (arthritis fun!), but it was so worth it! This lovely Scripture verse accent is from the same set. Now if only I could find a pretty wreath like this for my door! :-)

Some Technical Difficulties at the Shop

Hi crafty friends! I just wanted to confirm what some of you have already learned, which is that we are having some technical difficulties at the shop. The web company that hosts the store has mandated a software upgrade that, while it will be a good thing in the end, has messed up a few things. Diane Noble is working hard to get things smoothed out (thank you, Diane!), and hopefully everything should be working well again soon. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience while we work out the bugs. Also, so as not to disrupt your opportunity to play along with the November "Digi of the Month Challenge," I've added a "Buy Now" button to the challenge post. For the time being, you can purchase this set directly from me via Paypal. If you make a purchase, I will email the digi set to you within 24 hours at the latest of payment clearance. Again, thank you for your patience, and if you experience any difficulties with which you need assistance, please click on the "Contact Us" button at the top of this page to send us a message, and we will help get things sorted out.

Wish Big

Birthdays...we all have them, like it or not -- LOL! How do you usually celebrate yours? Is it a day of indulgence, or do you keep it more low-key? I find that I love to make a big deal out of everybody's birthdays but my own. When it's my day, I just want to keep it quiet and get through. Maybe because I'm getting old -- LOL! Seriously, though, birthdays are a blessing, whether someone else's or your own. Despite getting older, and not always liking the ramifications on my physical self, I am grateful for each year that passes that I get to spend with my family and loved ones, and for the additional wisdom that comes with the passage of time. Those are truly things to celebrate, don't you think?

For today's share, we have some lovely birthday celebration cards made by designer Becky Peterson, using the Wish Big set. Becky used such a fun combination of colors on these, and colored the image with pencils to bring them to life.

I love the clean look of each one, and the simple accents that really put the focus on the images. Wouldn't you love to get one of these on your special day? :-)

Waiting for Santa

How about a little inspiration for our Christmas crafters today? Designer Jerusha Borden made a darling card to share using the "Waiting for Santa" set. I love all the festive little details that Jerusha put into this, from the star-punched border to the darling stocking accent on the greeting. But my favorite part is that the little boys on the card are colored like her own precious munchkins. That makes the card that much more personal, don't you think? One of the fun things about the "Waiting for Santa" set that Jerusha used is that it includes a lot of differently colored children, both boys and girls, so if you like to use pre-colored digis, this set makes it very easy to personalize your Christmas cards. At Christmas time, I think the more personal the better! :-)

Challenge Inspiration Week 2

We are about halfway through our November "Digi of the Month" challenge, and I wanted to share a little more inspiration with you to get you thinking about what you will make this month. ;-) How about this super cute card by designer Lori Finch? Those tree papers and matching buttons are so fun, and Daniel looks right at home in the "woods" that Lori created here, don't you think?

Remember, you have until Sunday, 1 December to link up your project made with this month's Digi of the Month -- "Daniel's Tree" -- and get next month's digi for FREE. If you don't have this month's digi yet, you can get it HERE for just $1.25, or totally free with any $10 purchase of Deedee's Digis products.

Distinguished Gentleman

I always find it so challenging to make masculine cards and gifts. How about you? Part of the issue for me is that I tend to collect digis and stamps of "cute" things -- you know, the things that I love. But then I sit down make a card for one of the wonderful men in my life and realize that "cute" just isn't going to cut it for them -- LOL! It was with that thought in mind that some of the more realistic and masculine sets in my shop were made -- to give myself and others some things to work with when crafting for our cherished menfolk. One of the more recent additions to this stash is the "Distinguished Gentleman" set.

Today I have a couple of cards to share with you that were made with this set. The first is by designer Paula Bloom. Paula made the wonderfully whimsical (yet still totally masculine) card at the top of today's post. I really like how she combined both the formal and everyday bow ties in this -- so fun!

Here is one that I made, using the everyday hat image. Growing up, my beloved grandfathers and uncles always wore hats much like this one, so making this card was like revisiting a sweet memory for me.

This is what the whole set looks like. You can find it, and other fun, masculine sets in our shop.

Cuppa Love Gift Set

Do you hand-make gifts for the holidays? I'm always on the look-out for little things that I can make for friends and teachers, as well as for stocking-stuffers for my family. Today I have a sweet little gift idea to share, brought to you by designer Stephanie Wright. Stephanie took a simple junior-sized legal pad, a pad of post-it notes, and a pen, and turned them into an adorable gift set. She used the "Cuppa Love" digi set for the accents.

Here you can see how the cover of the notepad opens to the side. So cute and clever! Wouldn't this make a great gift for a co-worker, teacher, or friend? For more details about how she made this sweet set, please visit Stephanie's blog.
