Thank You Set with Pippa Price

Once the Christmas season of giving ends, the time for thank you note writing begins! For her last project share as our December Guest Designer, Pippa Price has created a wonderful "thank you" set to inspire you.

Using just her computer and elements from the "Handmade Happiness" set (available HERE for non-EU residents and HERE for EU residents), Pippa designed and printed this sweet set of notes, notelets, and coordinating envelopes. She used one of the digital patterned papers from this set as the background for each piece, adding pretty white frames in the centers. She accented each piece with the same pre-colored mouse image, and added the "Thank you kindly!" sentiment to the notes and notelets. She then printed everything out. Super easy to make, but also super cute, don't you think? Pippa reminds us that although she didn't hand-color the images herself this time, the option is always there with digis, as is the ability to add additional layers and trims to make these more complex, depending on your crafting style. You could make these to keep and use yourself, or as a gift set for someone else.

We are so thrilled to have had Pippa as our Guest Designer this past month (thank you, Pippa!), and hope that you've gotten a lot of crafty inspiration from her delightful collection of projects. Although her time with us is over, please remember that you can visit her blog -- "Views from the Craft Room" -- for ongoing inspiration!

January Digi of the Month Challenge (Freebie & Prizes!)

**Please note that this post has been modified from the original.**

It's time for a new Digi of the Month challenge! We had thought that this would be our last challenge, but in light of recent discoveries and -- praise God! -- finding a way to keep our shop open, we will have a February challenge after all!  Still, we have some fun twists this month, as promised. But first, take a peek at this month's featured set -- "Ice Fishing." Who knew sitting out on the ice waiting could be so much fun?!?

And now those twists!

  1. This set is FREE to download from our shop for everyone this month, whether you participated in the December challenge or not (find it HERE for non-EU residents and HERE for EU residents)
  2. Anyone who participates in this month's challenge will receive a $10 gift code to the shop. With our current rock-bottom sales prices, you should be able to have a bit of fun shopping with that! Play as many times as you like, and we'll send you a $10 gift code each time, BUT each entry must be unique, and shared in a separate post on your blog or gallery.
  3. Everyone who plays along this month will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift code to the shop. Again, each time you play, you'll be entered into the drawing.
  4. Finally, as usual, everyone who plays along with this month's challenge will receive next month's featured set for free at the end of the challenge.

So there you go -- fun, fun, and more fun! A few of our designers made sweet cards to inspire you to create something wonderful with this set.

Now, of course, it's your turn! To join this month's challenge, please make any wholesome project using this set (it doesn't have to be a card!) and then link directly to your project using the linking gadget at the bottom of this post by 11:55 pm Pacific Time on Sunday, 1 February 2015. We will email the $10 gift codes to participants as your projects are linked (please allow a 24-hour turn-around time), and announce the winner of the $50 gift code here on the blog on Monday, 2 February. We'll email next month's set to all of this month's participants that same day.

Fleas Navidad (Scrapbook Saturday)

What's more precious than a baby's first Christmas? How about a baby and puppy's first Christmas together? For today's Scrapbook Saturday share, designer Melissa Craig has created a fun-filled page celebrating her cousin's baby, Leo, and his first Christmas together with their puppy, PJ. I always love to see photos of baby Leo, but add in PJ's adorable puppy face, and my heart just goes pitter-patter! You can tell these two babies are having a high time enjoying the holiday together. The lower right photo of Leo giggling as PJ wags his tail near his face makes me giggle, too. Oh what joy!

To create this page, Melissa used the red and white dotted paper with a sentiment and one of the puppy images from the "Puppy's Christmas" set (available HERE for non-EU residents and HERE for EU residents). She shaped her photos to be the colorful centers of ball ornaments, topping each with a bit of digital ribbon. The way the ornaments kind of bump up against each other reflects the playfulness of Leo and PJ. The sweet prim tree she added makes a great color contrast, and ties in the pretty green ornament-shaped journalling box. "Fleas Navidad" indeed! :-)

New Year's Crackers with Pippa Price

The new year is just around the corner! How will you celebrate? Today our December Guest Designer, Pippa Price, has a clever little project to share that would brighten up any New Year's celebration. She made her own set of New Year's crackers -- wow!

Pippa used one of the printable papers and the balloon centerpiece image from the Fun & Festive set to create this. She colored each little decorative motif by hand using Spectrum Noir pens. Here's a close-up of one of them.  You can see that she even shaded the balloons to look as if the ones in the background are showing through those in the foreground just slightly, as balloons do -- beautiful!

Pippa purchase some snaps, hats, and mottos from eBay with which to fill the crackers. Each cracker is made using a Memory Makers punch board, and decorated with patterned paper from this digi set. She tied the ends of one with some pretty purple ribbon to give it an extra festive touch.

She tells me that the little gift box that holds these sweet crackers is "cobbled together" from white cardstock. She didn't have any huge sheets with which to work, so she got creative (of course!) and put extra pieces to make the sides of the box. She cut an aperture into the lid, and lined it with snowy acetate film. She covered the area surrounding the aperture with the same printable paper from which she created the crackers. Each little cracker is adorable, but as a set, they are amazing, aren't they?

Pippa calls these "New Year Crackers" because of the theme she chose, but reminds us that these could be made for Christmas, too, or any special celebration, really. How excited would the guests at your next party be to get a clever little creation like this as a party favor? This is definitely one I'm going to have to try -- I know my girls will love helping to make -- and use! -- some of these. Great idea, Pippa, and we thank you for sharing it with all of us!

We'll be back with one last share by Pippa next week. In the meantime, don't forget to stop by her blog -- "Views from the Craft Room" -- and leave her some love! :-)

Sponsoring at Clear It Out Challenge!

Do you hoard craft supplies? I sure do! I've been a crafter most of my life, and have way more supplies than I will probably use in my lifetime. I made a New Year's vow a couple of years ago to not buy anything other than glue and the like until I worked through what I had. Let's just say that I haven't even made a dent in it. If you, like me, need a little extra push to use up some of those supplies you've been hoarding, why not give the challenge at "Clear It Out" a try? Each week at Clear It Out, there is a different challenge theme, but an important part of each challenge is "and use something from your stash!" This week the challenge theme is to lift your favorite card of 2014 (one of their designers' or someone else's) plus use something from your stash. If that isn't an easy challenge, I don't know what is! Plus, if you play along, you could win $15 digis from our shop. With the going-out-of-business sale we have going, that could buy you a lot of digis!

Here's a card that I made for this challenge. I lifted this card that Laura of the C.I.O. team made for the August 5 challenge.

As you can see, I copied the layout, theme, and general colors of her card. Using pre-colored digis from the "Ugly Sweaters" set (HERE for non-EU residents and HERE for EU residents) this card came together in less than 5 minutes -- a first for me. The "stash" elements that I used include the Kraft cardstock base (in my stash for 3 years) and the stick-on red "brads" (in my stash for 2 years). Thanks, Laura, for the inspiration!

This truly was one of the easiest challenges ever, and I hope you'll stop by and give it a try. :-)

Want $10 in Free Digis? :-)

I mentioned in my post about our shop closing that we'd be going out in a FUN way. I'm determined not to let "the tax man" totally spoil what has been a fabulous few years sharing digis with you! Part 1 of that is the sale currently going on at the shop (all prices reduced by 75% with no set more than $1). Part 2 is this: join in our December "Digi of the Month" challenge, and in addition to receiving the January set for free, I'll send you a $10 gift code to our shop! With prices being as low as they are, you should be able to snag several items from your digi wish list with that, right? All you have to do to play along with the challenge is create and link up a project made with the December set -- "Happy Brrr-Day" -- by the challenge deadline of December 28. The bear image that I used on the scrapbook page at the top of today's post is from that set. Don't you want to play with him? If you don't already have this set, you can get it in our shop for just 31 cents. Yes, you read that right -- 31 cents!

If you already linked up your December Digi of the Month challenge creation, please check your email for the coupon code to get your $10 of digis. If you haven't played, well, what are you waiting for?!? :-)

Shop Closing January 31st = Big Sale!

Well my crafty friends, I have some sad news to share with you today. Due to upcoming changes in the European VAT tax laws, which affect us because our customer base is largely EU residents, Deedee's Digis will be closing January 31, 2015, and will not be able to sell to residents of the European Union after December 31, 2014.

I did not think that, as an American company, Deedee's Digis was subject to these laws, but learned just days ago that it is. Because the majority of our customers reside in EU countries, we must comply with the new laws or face stiff penalties. Unfortunately, I am not in the position financially or administratively to meet these new demands, and as such, will be closing the shop.

The new VAT tax laws go into effect January 1, but I did not want to close with such short notice. Thus, the shop will remain open until the end of January, but again, we will be unable to sell to European residents after December 31. Between now and then, please enjoy a 75% discount on all products throughout the shop. No need for coupon codes -- all prices have been adjusted, and no product costs more than a dollar! We will still be posting and sharing here on our blog, and sponsoring the challenges we had committed to right up until the end. We'll also have a very special "last hurrah" Digi of the Month challenge starting December 29, along with a few other treats along the way to help us go out in a FUN way, not a sad way. So we hope you'll stick around for that last bit of fun, too.

I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your support of Deedee's Digis. I've really enjoyed sharing my doodles with you, and seeing you bring them to life has given me many, many smiles! :-)

Sponsoring at Word Art Wednesday

Do you need a little spiritual lift today? If so, I encourage you to stop over to Word Art Wednesday, where there is always an encouraging verse, Christian fellowship, and a host of beautiful, encouraging cards to inspire you. We are thrilled to be among the sponsors for the current challenge, which features a very reassuring Scripture verse from Philippians. The word art of this verse -- Phillippians 1:6 -- was created by the Word Art Wednesday word-artist-in-residence, Karen Murray, and is available for free at the Word Art Wednesday blog. Why not stop by and download the file to use to make something with which to encourage someone? The current challenge runs for two weeks, owing to the Christmas holiday next week, so even if the Christmas season has you hopping, you have plenty of time to join in! Here is how a couple of us combined this week's beautiful verse with some of our digis to make our own cards of encouragement.

Happy Healing with Pippa Price

It's a sad fact of life that "Cold and Flu Season" follows closely on the heels of the start of the holiday/winter season. We can't always keep our loved ones well, no matter how hard we try. But we can, as crafters, create fun cards and gifts to cheer them as they recover! :-) For today's share, our December Guest Designer, Pippa Price, has created one such card of cheer. Isn't this adorable?!? I know it would sure make me smile to get this if I were ill! (It makes me smile regardless -- hee hee!)

To make this card, Pippa used elements from the "Happy Healing" set. She layered the doctor duck image slightly over the sick-in-bed duck image, printed it out, and then colored this sweet scene with Spectrum Noir pens. Pippa has such a wonderful coloring style! Just look at the detailed shading on the pillow behind the sick duck's head, and on the folds of his blanket. Little touches like that really bring an image to life. Although it can be tricky to spot in the photos, this scene is also layered for dimension -- three layers deep, in fact! That's a lot of coloring and fussy cutting, my friends! When the card is opened, the recipient will also get a sweet little surprise in finding that it is an easel card.

The card measures 19.5 cm square (that's 7.68 inches square for our American friends), and Pippa positioned the sentiment to act as the stopper for the easel. Isn't this perfect for resting on a bedside table to bring smile after smile during recovery?

To see more of Pippa's fabulous creations, please visit her blog -- "Views from the Craft Room." Also, don't forget to stop back next Wednesday, when we'll have another no-doubt delightful project of hers to share her.

Scrapbook Saturday: Christmas Joy!

Every month I look forward to seeing what designer Melissa Craig has made to share for our twice-monthly "Scrapbook Saturday" posts, and I sure hope that you do, too! When I saw this week's layout, though, my jaw dropped. Not only is the page she created stunning as always, but, well...that's a baby me in those photos!

Melissa is a dear friend outside of our team, and she very sneakily borrowed some photos without me knowing to create this sweet page. She was worried that I might be upset about it, but quite the contrary -- I'm touched that she did this! Until two years ago, I didn't have any baby pictures of myself, and the ones that I do have now are fragile, so I've worried about destroying them in the process of scrapbooking them. Thank goodness for digital scrapbooking, and for Melissa thinking to handle them this way! Besides, now you all can giggle at what a goofy-looking baby I was, with my red curls just starting to come in, finally, at age 2! :-)

To make this page, Melissa used digital paper and tags/frames from the "Blue Christmas Kit."  Aren't the little accents she added from her own stash of digital goodies -- the snowflake, bow, and that snowy white pinecone -- just darling? The white and light blue accents pick up the snowy swirls in the background paper so beautifully, and help to bring light to what I know to be some pretty dark photos. Of course, the large, white title is the perfect topper for a page celebrating the day of our Lord's birth -- Joy to the World, indeed!

By the way, the kit that Melissa used is one of three versatile Christmas kits that we introduced just last month. I hope to make and create more such kits going forward. Each of the Christmas kits includes five 8.5x11-inch printable digital papers as well as 30 coordinating patterned tags/frames. You can find each of the sets in our shop, and of course, as I said, I hope to bring you more soon! :-)

Reminder: House of Cards Blog Hop!

Have you hopped along with the team at the House of Cards Challenge blog yet? If not, there's still time to do so this week! They're having their end-of-year blog hop and challenge, and are offering some fabulous prizes, including a gift coupon for digis from us! There are two ways to win. First, you can hop around and leave a little love for each of the DT members who created projects for the hop. Second, you can create a project based on the inspiration photo that their team worked with. Here's the photo. There's so much in it to work with, don't you think?

Our team made some projects, too, based on this lovely photo. Between the House of Cards Challenge team and ours, we sure hope you find some fun inspiration! :-)

Inspired by the color scheme, deer, and wintery whites in the inspiration photo, Kathy created a gorgeous easel card! The delicate snowflakes in her patterned paper are so lovely, and how precious is that snowflake punched border around the sentiment piece?

Tamara worked with the wonderfully warm color scheme from the inspiration photo along with some elegant die cut pieces and jeweled accents to create this gorgeous card of peaceful wishes. What better gift could one get for Christmas?

I, too, was inspired by the fabulous color scheme of the inspiration photo, along with the wintery white evergreen branches that decorate the plate. (Yes, my sentiment is a bit lop-sided -- LOL!)

Little Readers with Pippa Price

Do you like to read, or have a loved one who does? If so, our December Guest Designer, Pippa Price, has a project to share today that you're really going to love! Using elements from the "Little Readers" digi set, Pippa made a darling pair of cards. But these aren't just cards. Take a peek!

For the first card, Pippa colored up the little girl image from the set using alcohol markers. Isn't her coloring just stellar? The yellow, lime, and aqua color combination she used is darling, too. (Might have to case that for a future set -- hee hee!) Pippa printed and colored a second image of the book the little girl is holding, and then trimmed the base image so that she could slide the book into her hands. What a fun effect! She matted the image quite elegantly, using a piece cut from the Nouveau Stamping Frame die by Die'sire.

Pippa followed the same basic design for her second card, but used one of the pre-colored boy images from the "Little Readers" set. This really shows how you can create equally wonderful cards whether you like to color the images yourself or not.

Now you'll notice that the back piece of each card is wider than the front. That's because the end piece of it is scored at 6cm from the end so that the recipient can zip it right off and use it as a bookmark. How clever is that? These would make great little gifts from a teacher to her students, or from a child to their classmates, don't you think?

To read more about how Pippa made this darling set of cards/bookmarks, or to see her other wonderful creations, please visit her blog -- "Views from the Craft Room." Of course, we'll also be back next Wednesday with another of her projects, so be sure to visit then! :-)

December Guest Designer: Pippa Price!

Please welcome our December Guest Designer, Pippa Price! Pippa is a wife of 29 years, mom of two lovely daughters, an educator, and a lifetime crafter. She is also a fellow sister in Christ, and in fact is the wife of a rector -- how fun! Pippa first came to my attention through our monthly challenges. She has a clean and classy crafting style, and the way that she colors the images on her projects always makes them shine out.

For her first project, Pippa has made a magnificent Christmas card combining elements of nature with  the true reason for the season -- the birth of sweet baby Jesus! She started with the pre-colored poinsettia wreath image from "Beauty of the Season". She printed the poinsettia flowers multiple times, and then layered them one on top of another. This 3D layering, plus the golden glitter she added to the flower centers really bring them to life! Pippa made a sweet little recessed spot inside the poinsettia frame in which to nestle the image from "Away in a Manger." She colored the image of the baby Jesus in the manger with Spectrum Noir pens. See what I mean about her coloring? It is just so vivid! Again, Pippa layered multiple copies of the image to give this dimension and life. Then she layered the whole beautiful scene on to a festive gold cardstock base.

Here is what the inside looks like. Pippa duplicated the poinsettia frame image from the front of the card, adding a Scripture verse about the birth of our Lord, along with another warm Christmas sentiment.

Pippa even created an "envelobox" for this showpiece of a card. How fun is that?!?

To read more about how Pippa put together this fabulous Christmas creation, and to see more of her lovely work, please visit her blog. We'll have another fun project from her next Wednesday, so please do check back!

Hopping along with House of Cards

House of Cards is having their end of term blog hop so we decided to join in the fun! If you hop along you will have a chance to win a $10.00 gift code to Deedee's Digis! The blog hop creations were inspired by this photo:

Carol and I were also inspired by this photo so we decided to play along!

I just love this card. Love how the deer stands out and the tree is frosted. A beautiful scene with so much detail! If you want details on the card click on her name to go to her blog.

I went with the food and color scheme. This is not what I started out making but it is what I ended up with. You can read all about it on my blog.

Head over to House of Cards and play along...you can do the hop and/or make a project yourself based on the inspiration photo.
