Dog Days of Summer
Did you know that "Dog Days of Summer" refers to an actual period of time each summer? Apparently it refers to a period of about 20 days before and 20 days after the alignment of the "Dog Star" (Sirius) with the sun, from about July 3 to August 11 (source: Infoplease.com). In olden days, this time frame was typified by "sultry" days and nights, along with lots of "discomfort," thus the common usage of the term to refer to the hottest days of the season. You learn something new every day, right?
Speaking of the "Dog Days of Summer," we have a fun share today featuring our set of the same name! Lynn Hayes has created this darling card featuring two hot dogs who have found a way to keep cool. Lynn colored the image beautifully, bringing in the warm colors of the season. I especially love how she colored the dog in the pool, with his adorable spots! The die-cut sun really brings this fun scene together perfectly.
Wherever you are in the world, I hope you are keeping comfortable today! If nothing else, you can follow these darling dogs' examples and drag out the wading pool -- the kids won't mind, trust me! ;-)
