Scrapbook Saturday: All Things Beautiful

Have you ever had a precious encounter with nature that kind of took your breath away? The star of this month's "Scrapbook Saturday" layout by Melissa Craig was, for her, one of those experiences! Melisssa found this gorgeous dragonfly just clinging to the antenna of her son's car. She pulled her camera out, and says that the dragonfly didn't even flinch as she stopped to take the pictures!

Dragonflies and butterflies and the like always seem to me to be little signs of God's grace in our lives. For that reason, I find it extra special that Melissa chose to accent these photos not with an image, but a Scripture verse. "He hath made every thing beautiful in his time...." (Ecclesiastes 3:11) Understanding God's timing can be such a tricky thing -- whether it's waiting on it, or recognizing it. It's definitely something I think all of us humans struggle with! But seeing little beauties like dragonflies and butterflies in the world helps to remind us how God is always working, and we just need to be patient and wait on Him!

You can find this Scripture verse in our "Caity Caterpillar" digi set. Enjoy your weekend, and remember to stop and notice the little blessings along the way.

A Sweet Sentiment

Happy Thursday! Thursday is always such a great day of the week because the weekend is right around the corner. No matter how tough the week is, knowing it will be over soon makes it easier to get through, don't you think? Well, we are hoping that you've had a great week and not a tough one, but either way, the weekend will soon be here -- ha ha! OK, maybe I'm just a little too tired, and that's only funny to me.

ANYWAY!  Today we have an adorable card by Tamara Dixon to share with you, made with our "Raggedy Sisters" set. We are blessed to have been invited again to sponsor at Penny's Paper Crafty Challenges, where the theme this week is "Sentiment," and Tamara made a perfect entry. There is so much sweetness in this card! Every accent that Tamara chose, from the country-patterned paper to the lacy hearts edging has a warm and cozy feel to it that goes so well with the image. She then topped it all off with a sweet sentiment!

The team at Penny's would love to see your creations, too, whether they're warm and cozy, or silly, or sympathetic, or...well, you decide!

Embossing with Crafty Gals Corner

What's your favorite paper crafting technique? Mine is definitely embossing, hands-down! I love the dramatic effects that one can get with embossing powder and a heating tool...with a stylus and a template...with an embossing machine and a folder...there are so many possibilities! Ooh that's really got my mind running with ideas now -- ha ha! If your mind is running with ideas, too, be sure to stop over and share what you make this week the gals at Crafty Gals Corner. If your mind isn't full of possibilities yet, well, you should still stop over there and get some inspiration! We are sponsoring the challenge, of course, so there's a chance of a digi prize in it for you. :-)

Before you start your embossing extravaganza, check out this beauty of a sample that Carol Longacre made to share with you. Carol put so many fun details into this, from the cloudy sky to that darling frog accent. But best of all, her embossing goes perfectly with the pattern on the giraffe image from our "Go Wild" digi set. Who wouldn't love to get this in their mailbox?

September Guest Designer - Welcome Ruth!!

It's the first Wednesday of September which means it's time to introduce our September Guest Designer.  Please help me welcome Ruth of Tip Top Toppers Things as our new Guest Designer!!!  You'll be amazed by her work - I certainly am!

A little bit about Ruth:

I live in Lancashire, UK and have been crafting for a long time but my main interest is papercrafting.I currently design for Polkadoodles and Dr Digi and I'm part of the Design Team for Simply Create Too.  I single handedly run Crimbo Crackers - a fortnightly Christmas themed challenge blog.  I previously designed for Funky Hand, Jellypark and Dude Time Doodles before they closed. I'm mum to two boys who keep me very busy with their sporting activities (football and go-karting) and I work full time in a very demanding role so papercrafting is my escape time.

I started cardmaking after making my own Wedding stationery 15 years ago and it's sort of snowballed from there!  I don't have a craft room or dedicated work area so have to keep the mess to a minimum.  I primarily use digital stamps and papers as these take up less space and I can print what I want when I want and have an endless supply.  Although I do have quite a large stash of physical papers!  I enjoy colouring and more often than not use Promarkers and Flexmarkers and sometimes Aquamarkers or watercolour pencils.  I enjoy using die cuts in my creations and my trusty old and well used Sizzix Original Red machine keeps me going although it is limited to die size

For this week Ruth is celebrating our  bit of summer by using Grillin' & Chillin'.  I'm thinking I need to BBQ now:

Stop by and visit Ruth at Tip Top Toppers ThingsShe would love to have you visit and leave her some love!!

Be sure to come back next week when Ruth will have us reaching for the stars!

Feeling Sketchy?

Are you feeling "sketchy" this bright and beautiful Tuesday morning? If so, pop on over to the Feeling Sketchy blog, where they have a brand new layout for you to play with, and a chance for you to win some of our digis. Their Design Team has also made some amazing projects from the sketch to share with you. I love seeing how different people interpret the same sketch, don't you? They went a lot of different directions with it, and every project came out so great!

Here's what I made with the sketch. The background paper, image, and sentiment are from the "Raggedy Fall" digi set. I couldn't find eyelets that I thought matched the papers well, so I went with brads instead, and wrapped the twine around the brads. It still gave me the laced-up kind of feel that the sketch has, I think, and coordinates with the rag-doll, too. Not the best light on this, sorry -- my scanner broke when we updated our operating system. Another thing to add to the never-ending to-do list -- ha ha!

Outlawz Greeting Challenge

(If you're looking for the September DOM Challenge post, please scroll down.)

It's time for a new Greeting Challenge over at Outlawz! This time around, the theme is "Anything Goes," as long but you must include a greeting/sentiment. "Anything goes" challenges are especially nice this time of year. The seasons are changing, and sometimes one is in a Summer mood still but other times thinking more on Autumn. Then of course, there are all the non-seasonal occasions that come along for which one needs cards, scrapbook pages, and gift items!

Here are a couple of fun projects created by our teamies to inspire you in this challenge.  You can find more inspiration, of course, over at Outlawz! :-)
